Ontology-based computer aid for the automation of HAZOP studies

CATEGORIES

RISK-BASED PROCESS SAFETY ELEMENTS

Research Summary

Demonstrates an ontology-based reasoning method that can automatically generate HAZOP worksheets from a modeled process system, including deviations, causes, consequences, and safeguards. For PSM Management of Change, it supports faster and more repeatable hazard review updates after modifications: when a change alters equipment, connections, or operating intent, the model can be updated and the tool can regenerate candidate scenarios. This can reduce the chance that MOC reviews overlook propagating effects and can improve documentation quality by providing a systematic, machine-supported baseline for review.
