Widespread Sensors and Artificial Intelligence for a Novel Safety Management System at the Seveso sites

CATEGORIES

RISK-BASED PROCESS SAFETY ELEMENTS

Research Summary

Explores how pervasive sensors combined with AI/ML and text-mining can make Safety Management Systems at Seveso (major accident hazard) sites more dynamic and resilient. The paper discusses automated analysis of large volumes of event/near-miss information and how this can strengthen core SMS functions. For Management of Change, the key relevance is enhanced monitoring and learning around changes: richer capture of weak signals after modifications, faster identification of emerging risks, and improved feedback for updating procedures, safeguards, and management review of change-related performance.
